"I am very pleased to hear all the positive comments about the first ten holes that are open at Balsam Mountain Preserve. We feel that the holes on the back nine will be even better than those on the front. I am very excited about the 14th hole in particular. Not only is this par 5 going to be one of the best golf holes on the course, the views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular. The last few areas, including a full practice facility, should be completed by mid to late July." - Arnold Palmer - July 2007

Amenities - Golf

Just as Balsam Mountain Preserve set a new standard in mountain living, our newly-opened golf course is setting a new standard for mountain golf. When we set out to create this course, our goal was to build a course that does justice to both the sweeping mountain views that provide the majestic setting for daily life here and to the playability that defines a truly great course. That's why we turned to the golf architects at Arnold Palmer Course Design, a company with a 40-year relationship with Chaffin/Light Associates, the developers of Balsam Mountain Preserve.

At its core, our new golf course rests on Palmer's belief that a course must be both truly beautiful and must serve the game of golf in its purest form.

By adhering to these two tenets of design, the architects and Balsam Mountain Preserve have created a mountain golf course in a class of its own. The course itself holds its own amidst the stunning scenery, and elevation changes from 3,200 to 3,700 feet make every round exciting, while wide and ample fairways make the course playable for golfers of all experience levels.

Practice Complex

The Balsam Mountain Preserve practice complex includes a practice tee, a short game area, and putting green. The practice complex boasts approximately 30,000 square feet of bentgrass teeing area spread over three levels of tees. With a target fairway and three different target greens, golfers have the ability to practice a variety of shots from different distances. Also, the design of the practice range allows the golfer to visually recreate a variety of shots they may face during a round. The short game complex features a chipping/pitching green and practice bunker providing golfers with ample area to practice the most important, stroke-saving part of the game. The short game complex incorporates a fairway approach area, approximately 40 yards long, that allows golfers to fine-tune their wedge play. The 6,000 square foot putting green provides all golfers with adequate individual space and the ability to practice both long and short putts with a variety of undulations.
